Jade / Nikita Ramsey – (The Myth Of The American Sleepover – 2010).

I recently got the opportunity to talk to Jade and Nikita Ramsey about their roles in teen flick, ‘The Myth Of The American Sleepover’. Here, Jade and Nikita talk about what it was like working with the cast and crew on-set and about how they got into acting in the first place…

Hey guys. Thanks for taking the time out to talk to me. ‘The Myth Of The American Sleepover’ will be in selected US cinemas soon.

What is the general premise of the movie?

The movie follows a group of young teenagers looking for love and adventure on the last weekend of summer.

Tell us a bit about the characters you play in the movie….obviously I’m guessing you’re playing twins…

Yep we sure do hahaha…we play Anna and Ady, the Abbey twins! We have left high school and are at our Freshman sleepover for the college that we are starting at soon. Our story centres on Scott, a boy from our school who comes looking for us, after breaking up with his girlfriend. Although we are twins, Anna and Ady have their differences, and handle situations very differently.

How did you get involved in the project in the first place?

We saw an audition casting online, looking for twin sisters our age, so we e-mailed our details across. Adele got in contact with us, and sent over a script which we read, and instantly loved. We liked how real it was, and especially with our characters being twins, we half expected them to be the stereotypical dum/ditzy/sexy talk in unison type thing that a lot of American films portray twins as. So we were pleasantly surprised when we read the script and it was different. We then went to an audition, where we met with Adele and David and we read for them a number of scenes, and a few weeks later I think it was, we both got parts! Yay! We were really excited!!!

What would be your ideal sleepover?

Halloween style!! TONS and TONS of candy, chocolate…we would cook and bake our epic dessert!! We are amazing cooks. Pizza Hut stuffed crust pizza, and watch horror movies, with blankets and a decorated house!! AND GET TERRIFIED!!!!

An IMDB user, GregKing4 has said – “’The Myth Of The American Sleepover’ is an honest and affirmative coming of age film that resonates.” – would you agree with this? How would you say it is different from other teen flicks?

We totally agree with that! That was one thing we both loved about the script, and it totally translates in the film. We often hate a lot of teen flicks, as they dramatise and stereotype everything. There is the jocks, the cheerleaders, the nerds – everyone is at a huge pool party, with red cups, beer pong etc etc…and in reality dramatic things happen but not everyday. A lot of people have said the film makes them feel nostalgic and reminds of their teen years. We think the reason for that is, is that it follows a night that could be any night and the characters are relatable and real. Also it focuses on little moments that are important, especially when your growing up.

The film stars Claire Sloma, Marlon Morton, your good selfs and Brett Jacobsen – what was it like working with the cast and crew on-set?

Everyone was amazing. Extremely hard-working and dedicated. We loved our time in Michigan. As all the characters storylines are very separate, we hadn’t actually met a lot of the cast until Cannes. We worked with Brett and had such an amazing time filming with him, but we didn’t meet Claire till Cannes, and Marlon until AFI in Los Angeles. But strangely it felt like we had already met them, as we had watched the movie so many times by then!

Let’s talk a bit about you guys – what both made you want to get into acting in the first place?

We grew up in a small town in the south of England, where being on TV or in films seemed a million miles away. As little kids we used to LOVE making home videos, and acting out our favourite TV shows. We were perfectionists, and can remember starting and restarting the filming about 30 times! When we got older we joined a local drama school, “Swish Of The Curtain” – which was amazing and our teacher Tina Smith taught us so much. Then we did LAMDA exams, shows, competitions, and auditions. From there we started working, came out to LA, and ‘Myth’ was the first film we booked!!! 🙂 🙂

You’ve had a number of different roles on a number of TV series and films – who has been your favourite actors to work with so far?

We both did a film together called “All About Evil”. The director, Joshua Grannell, is from San Francisco (we shot the movie there also..and now have fallen in love with the city!!) and he is well-known as drag queen Peaches Christ. Anyways, on that film, Thomas Dekker, Anthony Fitzgerald and Ashley Fink all acted in the movie too – we are all now literally inseparable and have travelled around the world together, promoting the movie! So FOR SURE that experience gave us the best friends, which is unusual, as often you do a job, and as much as you’d like to stay in touch with everyone and meet up all the time you don’t. Whilst filming you are like a family, then suddenly it wraps and everyone just leaves. However with this job, we have been very lucky to still see everyone A LOT, especially the three we named above 🙂 🙂

If you could both recommend a film or TV series to someone, what would you choose and why?

Mike Leigh’s movies….especially ‘Naked’ and ‘Another Year’. Also Shane Meadows – ‘A Room For Romeo Brass’, and ‘This is England’. These movies, (in the way that “The Myth Of The American Sleepover” does), follow people in their everyday lives – it’s real, you are not watching planes crash, or super special effects, but you are watching and caring about the characters on-screen. TV series wise – ‘Game of Thrones’. We are not very good at managing to keep up with tons of TV shows, but we are OBSESSED with ‘Game Of Thrones’! Its phenomenal, the acting’s amazing, the story is soooooo intriguing and it’s by far the best TV series we have watched. It’s like a new movie every week!

What has been the most interesting piece of local / national news you’ve heard in the last month?

We both found the article about the women in Iran who was blinded, (after having acid thrown on her by her ex-boyfriend) a very interesting story…and it really made us think about the rights/laws and punishments people should get for different crimes.

What is coming up for you in 2011? I hear you’re both in ‘Silver Falls’ and ‘Chromeskull 2: Laid To Rest 2’…

Yes they are both coming out this year, ‘Silver Falls’ is a psychological thriller, we play really creepy roles in that!! ‘Chromeskull Laid To Rest 2’ just premiered at Comic Con and got really good reviews. So we are VERY excited!!! Rob Hall, the director, is also an amazing special effects artist – the deaths and gore in this movie are insane. We saw it and were screaming!! And it takes a lot to make us scream!!! Jade is also back in Liverpool, England right now, filming the second series of ‘House Of Anubis’ for Nickelodeon, which we are both so excited about!!!! The first series did amazing, and this one is going to be even better!

Thanks for the interview!
